Tributes to musical lady Joyce Noon who 'touched the lives of many'


Joyce Noon nee Jones died peacefully at Liverpool University Hospital after her last short illness.
The inspirational lady was well-known in musical circles including Padgate Methodist Church and around Warrington and Bolton as she was a pianist.
Her funeral will be held on April 21 at 1pm at Padgate Methodist Church followed by Cremation at Walton Lea at 3pm.
Sister Sheila Parker said: We were brought up in Deane Congi (Congregational Church) Our young lives involved the church and we attended three times on Sunday. She went to Bolton County Grammar School on Great Moor Street and she did music at A-Level and it was a big part of our lives. She touched many lives and was into hospitality welcoming teachers into their home. ....

Tributes to former MP and council leader who was last surviving 'freeman' of Bolton


TRIBUTES have been paid to ‘a legendary Boltonian’, former MP and council leader Bob Howarth, who has died at the age of 93.
Born in Heaton in 1927, Mr Howarth was MP for Bolton East between 1964 and 1970 and leader of Bolton Council for 24 years from 1980, and chairman of Manchester Airport twice.
He died on Good Friday after living with dementia for the past few years.
Mr Howarth was the only surviving ‘Freeman’ of the metropolitan borough of Bolton and only the second individual to be honoured with that accolade, along with Bolton Wanderers legend Nat Lofthouse.
After attending Bolton County Grammar School and Bolton Technical College he became an apprentice draughtsman at Hawker Siddeley Aviation in Bolton and later become a passionate union activist before joining the Labour Party. ....
