Wexford to seek clarity on 'nonsensical' co-captain ban

Wexford plan to seek clarification on the GAA s new rule that forbids more than one captain of a winning team being presented with a cup.
The motion was passed without a vote at last weekend s virtual Congress, under emergency powers granted to Central Council during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Matthew O Hanlon is co-captain of the Wexford hurlers and raised the cup with Lee Chin after their first Leinster triumph in 15 years in 2019.
The defender told RTÉ Sport that he struggles to see the logic in a change that GAA director general Tom Ryan described as being prompted by a desire to tidy up presentation around matches and joked that himself and Chin would have to arm-wrestle to decide who would be first to lift any silverware. ....

Brisbane CEC in business with 22,000 visitors in first two weeks of February as live events roll out
As one of the first Australian convention centres to reopen in 2020 following the Covid-19 lockdown,
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is reporting a strong comeback and hosting an increasing numbers of events into 2021.
The Centre finished the 2020 year having welcomed 60,000 guests attending 165 events following its re-opening in August.
Since the beginning of February 2021, the Centre has hosted 33 events including exhibitions, conferences, corporate luncheons and graduations with more than 22,000 people through the doors in the first two weeks of the month.
The Pregnancy, Babies & Children’s Expo held in February, drew 9,000 attendees, while organisers of a public sector conference held at the Centre in mid-February were happy with their delegate turnout of 550. ....

The death took place on Wednesday, November 25 at his home in Long Island, USA, of one of the most prominent and popular Laois people of his generation, Bill McEvoy.
A native of Kilcoke, Ballybrophy, Co. Laois, he would have been 98-years old in the coming January.
Though the years had slowed him down physically, he still retained his acute sharpness of mind, the great eye for detail, his gentle humour and the ability to tell a good story right up until the end. A proud Laoisman, his whole life has centred on music, all things Irish and the GAA, especially hurling. ....
