CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson United’s former student-athlete Derek Waleffe has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for academic and athletic achievements. The NCAA awards postgraduate scholars a one-time grant worth $10,000, spread between the fall, spring, and summer. These scholarships are for student-athletes who excel academically and athletically in their final year of collegiate competition. Eligibility extends to all former student-athletes with an undergraduate degree from a NCAA member school, regardless of graduation date. These scholarships celebrate academic and athletic excellence. AUSTIN, Texas Clemson forward Hunter Tyson (Monroe, N.C./Piedmont) has been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-America men’s basketball Third Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators. Tyson is the first Tiger to earn Academic All-America honors since Bobby Conrad in 1980 (3rd) and is just the third ever (Jim Sutherland, 1967; Richie Mahaffey, 1968). The four Academic All-America teams, totaling 55 players, have a 3.87 average grade-point average with 16 members posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. After being named Academic All-District, Tyson was named to the All-America Third Team with a 3.55 undergraduate GPA in sports communications and a 3.90 GPA in athletic leadership. This marks Tyson’s first career All-ACC honor. Tyson is having a career year this season. He is averaging a team-best 15.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor, 41.3 percent from three and 83.8 percent at the free throw line.
