Haven Place confirms first COVID death | News, Sports, Jobs


LOCK HAVEN Haven Place has its first coronavirus death.
Confirmation of the resident’s death at the facility from COVID-19 came from Bobbie Woolcock, regional director of nursing operations for UPMC Senior Communities of which Haven Place is part of.
Woolcock said the resident who died had received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine, noting that it can take up to 14 days to build immunity, which is bolstered further, seven days after the second dose.
As of Jan. 12, 92 percent of the residents of Haven Place have received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine, Woolcock said.
“We have nine additional residents who tested positive for COVID-19 seven days after vaccination, indicating they may have already been positive before vaccination or contracted it between testing cycles,” Woolcock said. ....

Local long-term care facilities are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases at a time when the nation is bracing for the biggest surge since the start of the pandemic earlier this year.
In many instances, information for numbers of people both residents and staff members testing positive are not available through either the state Department of Health or the facility.
Bobbie Woolcock, regional director of nursing operations, Muncy Place, said 13 residents are now COVID-19 positive at the skilled nursing care facility. In addition, two employees recently tested positive.
“UPMC is following U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and working with local public health authorities to identify and contact individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19. This includes facility employees, residents and family members,” she stated. ....
