The right of petition, and of the people peaceably to assemble for the common good shall never be abridged. – Arizona Constitution  Anyone who’s been involved with an Arizona petition drive for a constitutional amendment, initiative or referendum might very well say that the “right of petition” has already been abridged.   The number and scope of laws governing Arizona petitions enacted by the Legislature has expanded dramatically, designed to make petitioning more difficult for citizens. The most recent examples are the “strict compliance” statutes.   The application of these statutes has limited the ability of citizens to legislate as contemplated and supported by the Arizona Constitution.

(KTVZ) Central Oregon s clear nights make for dazzling views of the night the sky. To accommodate steadily growing interest, the Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory is getting an expansive makeover. Construction began Thursday on a long-planned expansion of its observatory and upgrades to the current building. Sunriver is a designated International Dark Sky site, meaning the night sky is protected for optimal viewing. The new facility will have six more telescopes, different space for exhibits, and hands-on learning experiences. It will also be open year-round.

(KTVZ) NASA has moved one step closer to possibly discovering life on other planets, and Central Oregonians were cheering Thursday s successful landing of the Mars rover Perseverance with the rest of the country. Over 1 million people tuned into NASA’s live stream, waiting for the words “touchdown confirmed” and to see the eruption of cheers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory s control room, and the first new images from the red planet. Just after 1 p.m., more than 127 million miles away, NASA’s newest rover officially touched down after a voyage of nearly seven months.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hopservatory has not been able to run as usual, so Tandy has been honing his astrophotography and nature photography skills. Tandy is one of many local photographers featured in a new coffee table book, titled “Ineffable.”
