Birchard group sprucing up neighborhood with new street signs Some residents purchased plaques in memory of friends and family FREMONT - Victorian-style street signs now dot some of the neighborhoods around the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums and St. Joseph s Catholic Church, in an effort by residents to beautify one of the city s most visible historical areas. The signs came through a partnership between the Birchard Historic Neighborhood Association (BHNA) and the city, and more are on the way. Greg Kuns, BHNA s president, said there have been 40 of the special street signs put up since residents formed the neighborhood association as a tax-free organization. ....
Citing recent problems, leaders of more than a dozen publicly owned broadband systems are asking a state tech agency to make the âmiddle mileâ network more reliable, preventing service gaps that leave people in rural areas without phones as well as internet access. The state, in response, says towns are in a position to find solutions as well, by working with the networkâs operator and their internet service provider. âItâs going to take some money and some time, we acknowledge that,â Jim Drawe, executive director of WiredWest, wrote in a letter this week to Carolyn Kirk, executive director of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. WiredWest represents towns that used state money to build fiber networks. ....
FREMONT - City officials hope the former Wolfe Paper Co. site attracts a new manufacturer and more high-paying jobs to Fremont, after a Bowling Green-based real estate company bought the building at auction last week. Colliers of Cleveland conducted the auction, with its listing describing the 9.4-acre site as the home to Wolfe Paper Co. for more than 50 years, dating back to the 1960s. Bob Gross, the city s economic development director, said the historic building covers 115,000 square feet, is zoned industrial, and had been sitting vacant for about three years. Gross was one of about 30 people in attendance at the Wolfe auction, held April 8. ....
