Officials discuss traffic concerns as work begins on Tractor Supply distribution center

NAVARRE – While work is underway at the former Stark County Farm for a new major distribution center, local leaders are collaborating to find solutions to the increased traffic that the new business will bring to the area.
Tractor Supply plans to build a more than 895,000-square-foot facility at 3001 Sterilite St. on the nearly 117-acre site of the farm, now the Prospect Park Industrial Park.
County Commissioner Richard Regula said when the distribution center is up and running anywhere between 350 to 400 trucks will visit the company s main distribution center east of the Mississippi. ....

In Jo Daviess County, CPOT Thompson and CPO Hoftender completed a deer investigation. The hunter failed to check a deer in by 10:00PM on the day it was recovered. He also failed to tag a deer immediately upon kill. The hunter was issued a citation for illegal possession of deer and a written warning for failure to check his deer in by 10 p.m.
In Bureau County, CPO Kiprono observed two snowmobilers in a field; one of the operators was doing pushups on the back of his moving sled. CPO Kiprono determined their route of travel and stopped them on the other side of the field to conduct a compliance check. Both snowmobilers were 16 years old, with no driver’s licenses, and had not completed a snowmobile safety education course. Neither snowmobile was registered, had insurance or the required 16 square inches of reflective material on each side of the cowling. FREEBURG – Nearly two years ago the owner of a Lewisburg tax and accounting firm looked into purchasing a then-closed Snyder County custom wood cabinet manufacturer.
Maurice Brubaker did not buy Wood-Mode Inc. but instead, he and his wife Deb started their own custom cabinet business, William Penn Cabinetry in Freeburg.
From “the get-go,” Brubaker said he and his wife felt compelled to provide jobs for the community after Wood-Mode shut down abruptly on May 13, 2019, leaving 938 out of work. ....

Momence officer suffered cardiac arrest while on duty

KANKAKEE â Momence police officer Troy Jacobson died of sudden cardiac arrest while on duty Dec. 10, according to Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner.
Results from an autopsy showed the 38-year-old Jacobson suffered a pulmonary thromboembolism. A blood clot traveled from Jacobsonâs leg to his lungs.
Jacobson was on patrol at 12:40 a.m. Dec. 10.
He was on his way back to the station after he radioed in about not feeling well.
While en route, Jacobson crashed his squad car into the clock tower on the northwest corner of the intersection of River Street and Dixie Highway.
There were no signs on the pavement that indicated Jacobson applied the brakes to his vehicle before the crash. ....

Illinois State Police District 21 is investigating a two-vehicle accident which resulted in the death of a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the Wednesday morning accident.
Betty Becker, 75, of St. Anne, died from injuries suffered in the accident.
The drivers of the two vehicles, Becker s husband Frederick W. Becker and a 31-year-old Pembroke Township man, were taken to a Kankakee hospital with serious injuries.
The crash occurred at 10:51 a.m. Wednesday on Illinois Route 17 at Sandbar Road, six miles east of Kankakee, a news release said. ....
