Can t be pleged fast enough, perhaps. progress from the relief well continues. what if it doesn t work? what is new here? bob cavnan joins me from houston. i guess there s been this almost christmas is coming attitude about these relief wells that are going to work, that cutting into the pipeline into that well line into the bottom of the oil deposit is going to save us. is that your view. well, chris, the relief well is really the only solution to this particular problem. as we watched here a few weeks ago, the top kill failed and probably damaged the casing, further up the hole. so really the only way to shut this in is to shut it in from the bottom so that s really the only choice that we have. what happens, just a technical point here, when the relief lines reach the well itself, what happens then? do they pump cement down there? what do they do to stop the flow? right. they pump heavy mud first, ....
