Shelby Jean Cook, age 83, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday afternoon, October 22, 2021, at her home. She was born June 30, 1938, in Harrington, Delaware, the daughter of John Thomas and Mary (Laramore) Yowell. She was united in marriage to Richard Leroy Cook on February 14, 1969, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and together they have shared 52 wedding anniversaries. Shelby truly enjoyed helping others, and appreciated the opportunity to show concern and be a caregiver for those in need, including during her work as a CNA. She was a member of Bloom Baptist Church where she helped with bible school. She and Richard were members of the Harter Township Fishing Club and she liked time spent out at the lake. She is survived by her husband: Richard Cook of Flora; children: Joe (Karen) Anderson of Flora and Richard (Lesa) Cook Jr. of Flora; daughter-in-law: Linda Anderson of Pennsylvania; son-in-law: Ron Sexton of Flora; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Rose Yarbro of Cl ....
Danny Dale McAllister, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, December 31, 2020, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born July 27, 1941, at home, to Leonard and Margaret (Gaunt) McAllister. He married Donna Johnson on June 25, 1961, at Harmony United Methodist Church. Danny was a 1959 graduate of Flora High School where he played football and made the first kickoff on the newly named Dancey Field during his senior year. He tended to his family farm and found happiness in the labor of baling hay and getting to the bottom of stubborn hay baler problems. Danny also manned drilling rigs in the oil fields operating within and around Clay county. He is often remembered for his tireless physical strength and stamina that he put into all of his work. He served on the Harter-Stanford Fire Protection District and supported the growth of the fire department and ongoing modernization of equipment, and was also a knowledgeable member ....
The Fairfield Police Department says it has seen an increase in overdoses recently involving Fentanyl and Heroin-laced Fentanyl. Police say they have responded to three overdoses in the last three days, and officers have rendered life-saving aid to 12 people in the past three months. Police say anyone who sees drug paraphernalia, or similar out-of-place items, should not handle or touch them in any way, but should instead contact the Fairfield Police Department. Fairfield will hold Memorial Day services at the Maple Hill Veterans Cemetery at 11 Monday morning. Mayor Mike Dreith will be the speaker, with Dave Land serving as Master of Ceremonies and Lebanon North CP Church Pastor J.C. McDuffee offering prayer.
