In the 21st century, no one is safe from the mounting severity of the climate crisis. Families in South Africa are faced with critical shortages in water supply while entire communities in Australia, Portugal, Amazon, and Serbia battle with raging forest fires. Intense cyclones and hurricanes indiscriminately tear apart families and property in the Caribbean and rising seas displace entire communities in Bangladesh and Vietnam. The Pacific is also experiencing severe coastal erosion, extreme weather, coral bleaching, and the loss of our freshwater resources and biodiversity.  
These environmental changes are now directly affecting our basic human rights, threatening our right to food, water, shelter, and security, and they must be addressed through a human rights-based approach.
