A lot of city leaders across the country who last year got behind the defund the Police Movement are struggling to respond to a wave of Violent Crime and minneapolis has become ground zero for this debate. The citys Police Department is down more than 200 officers from a year ago and thats largely due to a wave of early retirements and extended medical leaves following the protests last summer. So far murders are up 130 compared to this point last year. Violent crime up 15 . Other major cities are seeing the same trends as well. Murders up by double digits and more than 800 in portland.
