initiative for school lunches. the thing was a total disaster. kids hated the lunches and threw them away and made videos about them. you can get in on this. did you ever hear a member of the media criticize michelle for a school lunch initiative that was well intentioned i m sure it was. we havee to get rid of obesity. that s good. on the substance not even criticism. it is pushup on ellen and the cover of 50 million magazines and most beautiful. that s fine. but come on. there s a double standard. it is pathetic. i m enraged. i think it is so unfair. look it was the media was quiet. talk radio and the blog sphere and the town hall of america talked about it, because it was those families and kids were coming home and were not getting nutrition it. became a negative problem. and then, even when we recognized this, there was a refusal to adjust it. and so, you know that became. look.
approving of him now than they were earlier this year. well, it s interesting. actually, most catholics, most americans love this pope. the people who don t like him are the conservative commentators on radio, television and the blog sphere. these are the people that are taking him on and attacking him. these are people who only want the church to talk about abortion, gay marriage and birth control. and this pope has got a much bigger agenda than that. he wants to talk about the poor, about immigrants and refugees. he wants to criticize capitalism. and, you know, of course, a big item on his agenda is concern about global warming and the environment. right. i m just wondering because he s
have 95, 96, 97% acu conservative ratings, that are saying, of ted cruz, this guy is making our life a living hell by pushing things that will never work, only strengthen obama, and they keep our people on the phone all the time and what they re angry about is, that he s doing it all to build his mailing list. yeah. so he can raise money and become a national candidate and basically the hell, not only with the republican party, the hell with the conservative moment. for anybody in talk radio or in the blog sphere that wants to say oh, joe, he s just an msnbc liberal. with a 95% acu rating, call conservative congressmen in the house and speak to them off the record, they re just as mad at what s going on as some moderate republican senator in the senate. democrats love this. curn servetives hate it. he s very transparent and a
issued a concuring opinion in which he says that the earlier cases should be overruled. he wants to do something very broad, strike down all of affirmative action. the rest of the court doesn t want to do that. i want to bring in ken, a professor of constitutional law at nyu. is that how you see this? i understand that no one involved here, just come down, has had a chance to read the specifics of this. exactly. so i want to sound a few more cautionary notes with a caveat i haven t looked at the opinion yet. based on the coverage i ve seen on the twitter verse and blog sphere, the last time the supreme court reversed and ra manded a decision was in 1995 on this issue and it said strict scrutiny has to apply. that was a shot across the bow telling the lower court to go its way and to strike down the affirmative action program. i m less sanguine about this than professor sherry was. even though she s right this only applies to public universities, let s remember that title 6 means th
so i think there are a lot of steps going forward. it s not just policy, it s also getting rid of some of the heated rhetoric, sometimes, on the right, about latino voters, because that doesn t justify the fact they re standing with latino, it affects the standing overall with voters everywhere. so the markup starts may 9th. how quickly does the get done michael? i think it s going to be a pretty steady timeline. i think there will be amendments, obviously, and there will be some chatter on the ground from various forces out there, certainly in the blog sphere, about all of this. but i don t think it slows this thing to a crawl. i think they ve got the momentum, as they like to say, the wind s in their sails and i think they re going to move rather expeditiously to get this thing done on the timeline that the president and the gang of 8 have outlined by the beginning of summer or at least by the end of summer. margie omero and michael steele, good to see both of you. some good
