Former mayor of Pullman, Karen Kiessling, was hindered from celebrating her 80th birthday with friends and family on Feb. 10, 2021, so she adapted by sending out a letter to ten female friends that contained $80 to spend whichever way they deemed necessary, with the only request being that they must reply with how they chose to spend the money. In this image, Kiessling displays a letter from a friend that explains how the money went towards a variety of things, including food for a nursing home staff and bedding for homeless women in the community.
