The Supreme Court today stayed for eight weeks the High Court orders that granted bail to three Hefajat-e-Islam activists in three separate vandalism and arson cases.
The cases were filed with Narayanganj s Siddhirganj Police Station against three Hefajat men Faruk Hossain, Md Iqbal Hossain and Moazzem Hossain and several others for vandalising and torching vehicles during March 28 hartal enforced by Hefajat.
Today, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the stay orders after hearing three petitions filed by the state, challenging the HC orders. ....

The Supreme Court today stayed a High Court bail order for two alleged members of banned militant group Ansar Al Islam and asked them to surrender to the trial court concerned in three weeks in connection with a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act.
The accused Sakib Al Imtihan and Sadat Fahim were released from jail after the HC on November 30 last year granted them bail in the case following a bail petition filed by the duo. ....

SC orders suspected JMB member Toufikul to surrender in 2 weeks

The Supreme Court today directed a suspected member of banned militant group Jama atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Chapainwabganj, Md Toufikul Islam alias doctor Toufik, to surrender before the trial court concerned in two weeks in connection with a case filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The apex court also stayed a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail to Toufik in the case filed with Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj in 2018.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the state challenging the HC order of bail. ....

No bail if one tarnishes country's image

The state has filed the leave to appeal petition, challenging a High Court order that granted bail to 61-year-old Sylhet resident Golam Sarwar in a case filed under the Digital Security Act accusing him of posting derogatory comments on facebook about some distinguished persons , said Deputy Attorney General Bishwajit Debnath.
He didn t give The Daily Star any details about the comments and the names of the distinguished persons since the SC prohibited him from disclosing them. ....
