Argentina abortion vote: Senate approves historic bill allowing legal terminations

Abortion-rights activists outside Congress in Buenos Aires celebrate Wednesday after the Senate approved a bill legalizing the prodcedure.
Argentina s Senate approved a bill to legalize abortion Wednesday in an historic vote seen as a major victory for abortion rights advocates in the Catholic-majority country.
The Senate voted 38-29 to give millions of women access to legal terminations under a new law supported by President Alberto Fernández. The margin was expected to be much smaller.

(CNN)Argentina could make history on Tuesday, as its Senate votes on a bill to legalize abortion.
The procedure has long been a divisive issue in the Catholic-majority country, with the impending vote galvanizing activists on both sides of the debate.
Campaigners for abortion rights and anti-abortion protesters have organized demonstrations in front of the Palace of the Argentine National Congress in Buenos Aires where the vote will take place. ....

Catholic bishops in Argentina are working to counter pressure from lobby groups after the lower house of parliament voting in favor of legalizing abortion.
Argentina s Chamber of Deputies voted in favor of a proposed law that would permit abortions to be carried out until the 14th week of pregnancy. ....
