The Haitian Catholic community in Atlanta and parishioners of San Felipe de Jesús Mission in Forest Park said goodbye to their spiritual leader, appointed by Pope Francis to become the next Bishop of Charleston.
About 2,500 people gathered on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima for the ordination of the first Haitian bishop to lead a diocese in the United States. Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS, was ordained as the 14th bishop of the Diocese of Charleston. He was formerly administrator of San Felipe de Jesús Mission, Forest Park.
Now that Catholic Bishop Shelton Fabre has been officially installed as the new archbishop of Louisville, the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is searching for a new leader.
