Three Years of the Maada Bio Administration : Parts 1 and 2 – Cocorioko

Three Years of the Bio Administration – Part One
On April 4, 2018, Sierra Leone changed the government from the former All Peoples Congress (APC) Party of Ernest Bai Koroma to Bio’s Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) administration.
As the PAOPA regime celebrates its three years in power, it is interesting to listen to what the president and his appendages said about the three years spent in the tenure of a five-year term.
I have been careful here not to mistake the PAOPA regime for an SLPP government. Because this was how the problem started when a group of infiltrators highjacked and captured the oldest political party in West Africa, creating a clique out of it, referring to it as PAOPA! It seems the clique intended to demonstrate its resolve to take the country out of the abyss of destruction that she was being dragged into by the former APC administration. Good as the intention may have been, but no one develops a country out of physical zest. ....

Oswald Hanciles Column : Mayor/SLPP – Cocorioko

Mayor/SLPP Versus Ignorance/Enlightenment
I was bemused and amused after reading the March 31, 2021 “Press Statement” by the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), with the pedantic word in its title “Incendiarism”, accusing the Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyer, of “Hate Speech”.
What triggered my mirth the most were these words in paragraph 3: “After keenly listening to the five different audios, transcribing the words into English, having our own team of Linguists, Psychologists, Anthropologists, Sociologists, Political Scientists and Security Experts analyze the contents….” The style of the Release, its unusual length, reads like that of students at university flaunting their jingoistic intellectual prowess; and worse, it reeks with that individual and collective egoistic-ism of too many of the Mende-speaking educated elite who dominate in the SLPP – that which non-Mendes do find so irksome. If it is a political document, it ....

SLPP is providing bread and butter – says finance minister Saffa as households continue to struggle

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 02 March 2021:
As millions of people in Sierra Leone struggle to make ends meet, amid continuing economic decline, mass unemployment and rising inflation – caused by falling value of the Leone, poor export performance, and low private sector investments, Minister of Finance – Jacob Jusu Saffa, said in an article shared on social media yesterday that: “Reducing poverty or providing bread and butter remains the overarching objective of our economic management.”
Whilst his 5-page article – some say thesis, has once again stirred debate about the government’s ability to manage the economy and run the country, the finance minister is insisting that his policies and strategies are working, and continues to lay blame for the current economic woes on the previous government. ....
