Birthday Bash : Local students get involved in puppet show to celebrate Missouri s bicentennial

Kraig Kensinger, artistic director at Puppetry Arts Institute, took some of the time afforded by pandemic closures and wrote a puppet show for Missouri’s upcoming bicentennial, celebrating the spirit of the state.
Usually, Kensinger is a solo performer for the Puppetry Arts shows. For the upcoming “Missouri Birthday Bash” show though, he’ll have some help from a couple Independence students who proved to be quick studies.
Ava Brown, who will be a seventh grader at Bingham Middle School, and Danyell Rucker, a junior-to-be at William Chrisman High School, join Kensinger and Puppetry Arts board president Kathy Vest for the roughly 20-minute show, which technically debuted at the most recent Englewood Third Friday Art Walk but will be presented in earnest next month at the National Frontier Trails Museum. ....

ALPENA The use of tax incentives, zoning changes, policy revisions, and the creative use of current structures still haven’t kept up with a spiking demand for housing in Northeast Michigan.
Big demand and too little supply, rising construction costs, and limited construction workers in part because of the coronavirus pandemic caused the region’s housing shortage, The News learned after weeks of research and interviews with homebuyers, sellers, and real estate and economic development officials. The shortage means people who want to move to or within Alpena often have to wait months before they can land a home. ....

Anna Meinhardt named to Alpena Public Schools board | News, Sports, Jobs

ALPENA Anna Meinhardt on Thursday was selected as the newest Alpena Public Schools trustee during a special school board meeting held via the videoconferencing software Zoom.
Meinhardt was among three candidates interviewed for the partial term that expires on Dec. 31, 2022. Alpena residents Tim Allen and Amy Ward also applied.
The seat was previously held by Keri Johns, who was appointed to serve until the general election in November. Instead of seeking reelection to the partial term, Johns ran for a full four-year term, but was not reelected.
Trustees said they were impressed with all three of the candidates, but Meinhardt had a little more understanding of Michigan school finance. ....
