Rolling blackouts for Qld after power station explodes

Queensland should prepare for rolling blackouts and not use electricity between now and 9pm where possible, the Australian Energy Market Operator has warned.
It comes after power was cut to hundreds of thousands of Queensland and northern NSW homes and businesses after explosions at Callide Power Station in central Queensland.
A total of 477,000 homes and businesses across the states were impacted after multiple explosions around 2pm, with most of the outages lasting until about 4pm.
The Australian Energy Market Operator, in its latest statement, said there was not enough power to meet demand following the incident at the Callide Power station, shaking the reliability of the system. ....

Exclusion zone remains in place at Callide Power Station


LATEST 6.30PM: Residents across Queensland have been warned further power outages could be in store Tuesday evening as emergency services remain on scene responding to an explosion and fire at the Callide C Power Station at Biloela.
The Australian Energy Market Operator advised that some customers in Queensland may experience further outages, but essential services such as hospitals, transport networks, ports, airports and other key infrastructure would stay online.
Energy Minister Mick de Brenni thanked Queenslanders for their patience and understanding.
“I’m thankful no one was injured in this incident and we’re working hard to resolve these unprecedented issues as quickly as we can,” the Minister said. ....
