A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly firing a gun into the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse in downtown Portland on Friday. According to the Oregon U.S. Attorney s Office, just after 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, Cody Melby of Beavercreek was reportedly seen jumping over a security fence at the courthouse and firing several rounds into the building s exterior using a 9 mm handgun. Two security officers who had been watching Melby via closed-circuit cameras then went outside to confront him. Once the officers approached Melby, he told them he had a gun and was arrested without further incident. ....

This year’s observance takes place on Saturday, Jan. 9. “This past year has brought several unprecedented challenges to our country and the law enforcement profession. Working in law enforcement is, now more than ever, one of the hardest and most important jobs in our country.
