For now, democratic consultant. Atg starts by looking back 2019, what surprised you the most about where we ended up in the democratic president ial primary . The first thing that surprised he was Kamala Harriss exit. I felt like she had one of the clearer pathways to the nomination and i was surprised about her early exit. The other thing that may not be the surprising is remarkable stability of joe biden and Bernie Sanders throughout this process. Biden has remained consistent in National Polling. Different in iowa and New Hampshire. Bernie has been relatively consistent. Then you have to look at mayor viablemerging as a very candidate coming out of basically nowhere. The mayor of south bend and now he is leading the polls in iowa and New Hampshire. He has a real good chance to win both of those states. Those are some things that surprised me the most. Host who do you think has the easiest path right now . If you look at the nomination i think it is biden. I think biden has demonstra

My honor the convene this plenary, and when we were planning the conference, we always liked to bring our heavy hitters out. And i think that today is one of those occasions, in which we have a collection of fine scholars and activists here to address the theme. So what we are, and what we have decided to do is to run the plenary more as a round table, and the moderated conversation about the issues with the great migration, and i wanted to introduce our panelists, and give them an opportunity to speak for a few minutes as far as their own work and perceptions and ideas about the great migration, and then move on to the question and answer followed by a discussion with us, and followed by a question and answer session with the audience. So i wanted to introduce our panelists. The first panelist is joe trotter who is a giant history professor and prior with the Carnegie Mellon center in pittsburgh, and previously the president of the africanamerican studies in the urban life and economy
Collins this hearing will come to order. Good morning. Next week americans will honor our nations veterans who have paid the price for our freedom in times of conflict and served as our shield in times of peace. Today, nearly 20 million americans have earned the title of veteran. Im proud to say that maine is home to more than 114,000 veterans. The second highest percentage in our entire country. We owe them such a great debt. The gratitude we express in words on veterans day can repay this debt only in small measure. A truly grateful nation must match its words with actions. As we will learn today, one issue that calls for our immediate action is to fight a newer enemy facing our veterans and that is those relentless con artists who seek to rob them of their life savings and defraud them of the benefits they have earned in service to our country. Often, veterans fall victim to the same scams that this committee has highlighted in recent years such as the irs imposter scam, the grandpa
