Rogue Island, due out this July on Rocktorium Records. Born in the throes of 2020’s COVID-19 shutdowns, the new album is a beacon of positivity and uplifting vibes. This instrumental soundscape is set to be the perfect Summer soundtrack, and will be available everywhere you stream music on July 2nd.
 
Curt Ramm is one of the preeminent horn players in rock and roll. As well as being an in-demand studio session player, Curt’s playing has kept him very busy over the years with electrifying live performances throughout the US, Europe and Japan. Muckenthaler Cultural Center’s Jazz Festival returns after yearlong hiatus

The Muckenthaler Cultural Center’s Jazz Festival is set to return on May 13 through June 17.
The center has held virtual and private art exhibitions, created art kits for local families, co-hosted drive-in movie theater showings with Frida Cinema and completed its sculpture garden within the past year. However, its facilities have been closed with limited capacity.
The six-week run marks the first live shows in its outdoor amphitheater since the start of COVID-19, which set off an unprecedented closure. ....

Jennifer Wharton might be considered by many a unicorn in the world of music. In decades from the not-too-distant past, it was a rarity to even have a woman in prominent jazz bands and orchestras, but to have a bass trombone-slinging woman as leader was thought extraordinary. In 2019, Wharton presented her trombone-powered ensemble,
Bonegasm, via a self-titled debut album. She enlisted fellow trombonists John Fedchock, Nate Mayland and Alan Ferber, along with the rhythm section of pianist Michael Eckroth, bassist Evan Gregor and drummer Don Peretz. Bonegasm’s new recording, “Not a Novelty,” features compositions commissioned from a variety of sources, all composers Wharton had worked with and felt a mutual level of musical simpatico that would benefit her ensemble. ....
