Source: SAFE For Animals Angela Turnwald, the greyhound racing trainer who was fined and disqualified for four months earlier this year following a doping scandal, has now had that disqualification extended to 18 months. Turnwaldâs dog Zipping Sarah tested positive for methamphetamine at a race in November last year in Christchurch. After the initial sentencing in April, the Racing Integrity Unit appealed the sentence seeking a greater punishment. SAFE spokesperson Will Appelbe said itâs a bittersweet result. âThe greyhound racing industry only drug tests 7% of the dogs that are raced, so this could just be the tip of the iceberg,â said Appelbe. ....

On Friday, Big Time Frosty became the 10th dog killed this racing season at the notorious Whanganui greyhound racing track. She sustained a serious fracture of the right tibia after colliding with several other dogs. The track has a reputation amongst greyhound racing circles and is referred to as being a âdeath trapâ if itâs recently been raining. Since the start of the season, 243 dogs have been injured. SAFE spokesperson Will Appelbe said the track needs urgent attention from the Ministry for Primary Industries. ....
