Minnesota fishing report: Grand Rapids sounds promising across species A roundup from around the state. July 29, 2021 6:12pm Text size Copy shortlink: Alexandria area: The bass bite has remained consistent on area lakes. Anglers are having success near the deep weed lines. Walleyes are at the outside edge of the weeds and at the deeper structure, such as sunken humps and islands. Panfish are active near the weed lines. Baudette area: Walleye anglers on the south end of the Lake of the Woods are having success in both shallow and deep water. Most anglers are targeting walleyes in depths around 30 feet over the deep mud. On the Rainy River, anglers are catching a mixed bag of walleye, sauger, smallmouth bass, northern pike and sturgeon. The sturgeon keep one season remains open through Sept. 30. ....

Northwest Region Baudette - Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River Good numbers of walleye and sauger are being taken from the south end of Lake of the Woods. Resorts have set their fish houses over productive depths of 20 to 27 feet of water. Using a jigging line, and dead-stick a live minnow on a second line. For the jigging line, use jigging spoons with a minnow head or minnow tail. Ideal colors are gold, glow, glow red and pink. Some jumbo perch, large northern pike and eelpout are adding to the fun. In fact, one angler caught an eelpout this week that weighed just over 17 pounds. The Minnesota State Eelpout Record weighed 19.67 pounds, and was also taken on Lake of the Woods. ....
