American job markets layoffs are slowing and hiring is happening. the big government jobs report, economists predict another 650,000 jobs added back to the economy in may and the unemployment rate down to about 5.9%. if that holds the economy would be down about 7.6 million jobs since february 2020. as the economy roars back layoffs are slowing. first time jobless claims fell below 400,000 for the first time since march of last year, the trend very clear there, but hiring lately has been choppy. april s jobs growth of 266,000 was wildly below what economists had forecast, another miss on that this time would inflame the debate over what s keeping workers on the sidelines. child care will be a challenge for some parent as offices reopen this summer and return of in-person learning in september that could allow more people could go back to work. several industries are struggling to find workers, people are either retraining for jobs in higher paying sectors or simply not ready to go yet. ....
Improvement. a positive jobs report on weekly unemployment claims. they unexpectedly fell by 20,000 to 368,000. everybody stuck at that 400,000 level for three years. now it looks like we are moving to the next threshold and if it holds steady, it would show we are seeing fewer layoffs over time but the big question is are we going to see any hiring? it s a big comparison from hast year this time, down 100,000. last year the claims were up as much as 466,000. we are moving in the right direction. this is bringing anticipation about tomorrow with the big government jobs report. it is expected we are going to see that 200,000 jobs were added to the economy, and that s why we re seeing the markets up strongly today. terrific news. alison kosic, many thanks. our daily dose this morning, you may find more bear shelves ....
So if most of those jobs disappear, brooke, those claims are likely to go back up. we are going to have a better idea about the jobs picture next week we get the big government jobs report. brooke. before i let you go something parents need to listen to a warping from nintendo addressing the 3d craze. what is the story there? this is interesting. nintendo is coming out with a new device called the 3ds and issued the warning saying don t let your kids under 6 years old play with the 3-d games on it the warning says that if these kids look at these 3-d images for too long it can hurt the growth of their eye of young children s eyes it also ex-stepped the warning saying that adults have to take breaks, too, and stop playing if you feel sick or dizzy. and it is not only nintendo, brooke, these warnings are pretty similar to those issued by other companies in the past, including samsung, sony and panasonic for their 3-d devices. all of these devices carry these ....
