New Delhi: A total of 75.06% voter turnout was registered until 5 pm on Monday in phase seven of the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission said.
Voting took place for election to 34 constituencies in the assembly, across Paschim Bardhaman, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Malda and south Kolkata.
KOLKATA: Stray incidents of violence were reported Monday from some areas where voting is underway for the seventh phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal, though the overall polling process has been peaceful with 37.02 per cent turnout till 11 am, officials said.
Long queues were seen outside most polling booths where voting is underway, adhering to Covid protocols, they said.
Voting is being held at 12,068 polling stations spread over nine assembly constituencies each in Murshidabad and Paschim Bardhaman districts, six each in Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda and four in Kolkata, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee s home turf Bhabanipur. Till 11 am, 37.72 per cent voter turnout was recorded. The polling has been peaceful so far, an Election Commission official said.
