Indian Man, Manasamitra, SilverFinger Singh & DJ Deepsta at The Parish


To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, Sangam Festival in association with Chocolate Fireguard and Timeless Festival present an eclectic line up at the Parish, Huddersfield.
Indian Man (Womad resident), Manasamitra (Supriya Nagarajan - Worldwide FM), Silverfinger Singh (BBC Radio Leeds) and DJ Deepsta (World Bhangra Day) will feature in this special event on 4 August 2021.

The Bristol based producer began his journey with his Punjabi Indian roots, which has since expanded to create a melting pot of melodic magic by merging the music of his childhood with the UK sounds of Dub, Garage and Jungle.
Starting his career as a live touring musician for the past 10 years dabbling in everything from funk, jazz, and Bhangra, the Indian Man project was born three years ago out of a desire to merge his groundbreaking “East meets West” sound on dancefloors worldwide.  ....

The visions of the California artist
Charles Gaines (b.1944) are as glorious as they are rigorously principled. He takes vast monochrome photographs of what is inherently beautiful – the human face, the spreading boughs of a tree – and then mounts them behind Plexiglas screens. Each screen is partially overpainted with tiny coloured squares, and each pixel bears a number. It is the strangest configuration to behold.
Gaines is about as renowned in America as a systems-based conceptual artist as he is undervalued here. The subject – though not the questioning content – of his work over almost half a century has ranged from walnut trees to music and the movements of the American dancer Trisha Brown. No matter how conspicuously stringent his methods, however, a certain poetry always sings through. ....
