Mumbai: In the latest development in Bhandara fire tragedy, the state probe committee in its findings have said that the on duty nurses were absent from the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhandara District General Hospital at the time of the tragic incident, sources said.
Times Now’s Rakesh reported that the probe committee in its 50-page report, which has been submitted to Maharashtra health secretary, has said that a baby warmer at the SNCU caught fire due to a short circuit. The report states that the tragic incident could have been averted if the nurses were present inside the ward. Sources ....

The mishap took place at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhandara District General Hospital at 2 am on Saturday. The infants were aged between a month and three months, a doctor said.

Mumbai: The fire tragedy at Maharastra’s Bhandara hospital, in which 10 newborns died, has brought to fore several serious safety lapses on part of the hospital administration.
It has come to light that the hospital had no alarm system and sprinklers, and that staff there are not trained to use fire extinguishers.
The four-storeyed hospital had conducted only one mock drill in 2016-17 and a fire audit was also pending for the past two years. ....
