Former nurses, retirees rally to help Mesa County Public Health

Mesa County has come together in more ways than one to get through the past year.
âIt takes numbers and numbers of volunteers to pull this off and weâve got people lined up,â a thankful Jeff Kuhr, Mesa County Public Health executive director, said at last weekâs COVID-19 news conference where he opened the countyâs large scale vaccination clinic. âI want to thank the volunteers who will be helping us in the months ahead.â
Two of those volunteers helping out include Bethany Hoffman and her husband, David.
Hoffman worked as a nurse in the valley for many years before retiring about eight years ago. Now sheâs returned to the field to help administer vaccines. ....

NIMHD Workshop Explores Effects of Work on Health Disparities

NIMHD s Dr. Rada Dagher said studying health disparities can help tackle issues underlying current health crises in the United States.
The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities recently hosted a 2-day online workshop the Role of Work in Health Disparities in the United States to understand and address the role of work as a social determinant that contributes to health disparities.
The multidisciplinary workshop convened experts from the fields of health disparities, population sciences, labor economics, occupational health, epidemiology and organizational sociology and psychology to consider work as a social determinant and to identify priority research areas, potential mechanisms and interventions to address the role of work in health disparities. ....
