Under the new timeline, students in pre-K through elementary school can return to the classroom before all teachers who want the COVID-19 vaccine receive their second dose, while most middle and high school students will return after staff are fully vaccinated. ....

(WWBT) - The Henrico County School Board has voted on a plan that will allow students to return to in-person learning. The board voted 4-1 in favor of students returning to the classroom; Brookland District board member Kristi Kinsella voted no. “I understand the toll this pandemic has had on all our lives and we are yearning for a sense of normalcy,” said Fairfield District board member Rev. Henrico could make a back-to-classroom decision next week By: Henrico Citizen and last updated 2021-01-29 09:15:20-05 HENRICO COUNTY, Va. A decision about when in-person learning will resume for the Henrico County Public Schools students who chose it should come Feb. 4. On that day, the Henrico School Board will hold a special meeting to receive a recommendation from its health committee about the return to school and an update about the status of vaccination efforts for school employees. At the boardâs Thursday meeting, health committee member and HCPS Chief of Staff Beth Teigen told board members that the committee was weighing two options â returning students sometime after all HCPS employees who wanted to be vaccinated had received their first shots, or waiting until after they all had been fully vaccinated. Michelle Ogburn of the Three Chopt district was elected as school board chair and Marcie Shea of Tuckahoe as the new vice-chair. In addition, Cathy Harris was elected as clerk, and Tiffany Burton as deputy clerk. The Board also approved Superintendent Amy Cashwell’s recommendation for Beth Teigen, her chief of staff, to attend board meetings in her absence. Following a closed session, Cashwell quickly addressed confusion regarding the district’s recent decision to delay Henrico’s return to in-person learning indefinitely. ....
