Boston's movie theaters are open. Will you be in attendance?

The demand for big screen movies is so high that when Coolidge Corner Theatre recently announced that it would be reopening for in-person viewings for the first time in over a year, they had to shut down their ticketing page twice.
“There’s nothing like seeing a movie in the theater on the big screen,” said Beth Gilligan, the director of development and marketing at the Coolidge. “Our ticket system sort of buckled under the weight of intense audience demand, which in the scheme of things, is not the worst problem to have.”
Thank you for bearing with us! We re glad everyone s excited to come back… so excited that our ticketing system crashed. We think we ve identified the bugs, so tickets will be going back on sale today at 3pm ⏰ pic.twitter.com/lK5i3wEGQ3 Coolidge Corner Theatre (@thecoolidge) May 7, 2021 ....

After 14 Months Of Movies At Home, A Film Critic Returns To The Cinema

The marquee of the Coolidge Corner Theater annouces their reopening on May 13 after being closed to the public for 14 months due to the pandemic. (Jesse Costa/WBUR)
It had been two weeks and three days since my second vaccine shot and 429 days since I’d been to the movies when I walked back into the old, familiar lobby of the Coolidge Corner Theatre on Thursday night for its reopening. Things look a little different now than they did when I’d last been there in February of 2020. Beyond just a snazzy new coat of paint, the concession stand is now enclosed in plexiglass and the similarly aquarium-like bar now shunted off to the other side of the lobby. Both were closed for this evening’s show, management keeping a fully masked, no-food-or-drink policy for the time being, while we all get used to watching movies together again. (I’m told that barring any unforeseen developments, snack sales will return in time for Memorial Day weekend.) ....

Greater Boston's art-house cinemas: a status report

Why not carve out time for a writing retreat through The Muse & The Marketplace? Organized by Boston’s nonprofit creative-writing center Grub Street, the annual conference is held online this year during two April sessions.
During week one, April 21-25, more than 65 speakers and workshops will offer lessons and insights to writers of all styles, genres, and experience levels. Literary agents will also be on hand at small-group “Shop Talk Happy Hours” to discuss manuscripts they’d like to see. Week two, April 28-May 2, is reserved for the popular Manuscript Mart. Writers meet one-on-one to discuss a 20-page excerpt of their work with an acquiring editor at a publishing house or literary journal. And this year, Grub Street has added a new event: Premium Workshops. Guest authors will lead in-depth sessions focusing on elements of writers’ specific manuscripts, and offer consultations and feedback. “All sessions, discussions, agent meetings are ....
