Former MVP returns to Mackay side after international stint

Mackay basketball fans will get to watch a former fan-favourite take the court once more when the Meteors play Rockhampton on Friday.
Meteors’ 2013 MVP and member of 2015 QBL championship team Matthew Adekponya will suit up as a short-term replacement player for his former side.
The 30-year-old’s signing comes after Meteor forward Kye Medhurst suffered a foot injury during a pre-season match three weeks ago.
Meteors coach Joel Khalu said he was ecstatic the 194cm forward was re-joining the club.
“He knows most of the guys in the group really well and I’ve coached him for many years, so he understands our style of play and what we’re trying to accomplish at both ends of the floor,” he said. ....

Children's online decor store opens pop-up stall in Mackay

An online store has come to life in the form of a pop-up shop on Thursday, with the event running across two days.
Teeny Tiny Interiors has opened its physical doors for the first time, welcoming customers in Mackay to browse through products on the shop floor rather than the web page.
The store is completely run by Mackay mum and interior designer Kylie Giumelli, who said her business was inspired by the birth of her first child.
âI fell in love with the world of childrenâs decor, so the products primarily sold are babies, kids and teens decor,â Mrs Giumelli said. ....

New family-run store opens in Mackay

Mackay residents will not need to travel far for their interior design and backyard maintenance products, with a new local business recently opening.
House of Lavender opened its doors last week, with the family-run business offering solutions and services for both indoors and outdoors.
Owner Renee Lavender said the business was inspired by a lack of the particular service in the area.
“This service and advice is something you just can’t get in Mackay,” Mrs Lavender said.
“We tried to get these ceramic pots for our house, and we couldn’t find them anywhere locally. ....

Students at CQUniversity have celebrated the end of over-caffeinated, late nights at a graduation ceremony in Mackay.
Almost 150 Mackay students graduated on Tuesday, with nine graduates completing their Vocational Education Training, one finished a PHD and 138 took home either a bachelor or master degree.

Speaking at the ceremony at Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, Chancellor John Abbott challenged the graduates to maintain a commitment to lifelong learning.
âChallenge yourself at all times, contribute to the communities of which you are a part,â he said.
There were 25 students graduating from a Bachelor of Nursing, five from a Master of Nursing, and 24 across early, primary and secondary education. ....
