Congress passed a $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill Monday that includes funding for direct stimulus checks, supplemental unemployment benefits, and more funding for businesses.
“While this compromise legislation does not go far enough to protect all vulnerable Americans, it is a start, and I’m hopeful the new administration will be able to build upon this bipartisan effort to craft a more comprehensive assistance package early next year,” County Supervisor Gregg Hart said during a Tuesday COVID-19 briefing.
Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Santa Barbara, voted for the bill, and said in a statement that “more help is on the way” as businesses are forced to close, families face eviction and food insecurity, and hospitals fill with COVID-19 patients. ....
