I know a lot of people who are doing this for their Halloween costume but were having issues getting the mittens. It s so crazy that people go as meme s for Halloween now. A lot of people will be doing the Bernie Sanders Mitten meme for Halloween.
The mittens though. A place all the way up in northern Michigan called Baabaazuzu in Lake Leelanau has been hand-making mittens out of recycled, wool sweaters since 1993. They have seen their orders triple since the inauguration under a month ago. They are calling it a Bernie Moment and have taken a bunch of orders from the east coast to Chicago. It features the Vermont senator in a coat and mittens like the ones he wore to President Joe Biden s inauguration. You had to make snow forts, have snowball fights, that whole thing, so I ve always loved working in snow and with snow, Sepulveda said.
Sepulveda has been making such snow creations for years.

We’ve all seen the viral memes of Senator Bernie Sanders and his mittens at the Presidential Inaguration, but did you know the idea for his sweater mittens came from Lake Leelanau’s upcycled wool clothing store baabaaZuzu?
“We started 28 years ago this year,” said baabaaZuzu co-owner Sue Burns. “It was a little bit of a laundry mishap that resulted in a pretty good pile of shrunken sweaters. I grew up sewing, and have a background in graphic design, and I just kind of blended the two talents and produced, refashioned little jackets for our young daughters.”
From there, the demand grew to women’s apparel, then hats, scarves, and their famous mittens.
