Massive flooding has caused devastation across parts of central Europe. In Germany, more than 125 have been confirmed dead, with hundreds still missing and thousands driven from their homes. Scientists say that climate change had a role in it.
At least 103 people were reported dead and dozens missing Friday in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands after heavy storms and rainfall caused rivers and water reservoirs to burst their banks and flash floods turned streets into raging torrents, sweeping away cars and destroying buildings. 
Over the past several weeks, Germany has experienced a roller coaster ride of high temperatures and dryness followed by episodes of heavy precipitation. ....

Germany and Belgium floods: More than 60 dead and over 70 missing after heavy rain

More than 60 people have died and over 70 are missing after record rainfall triggered severe floods in western Germany and neighbouring Belgium.
Fifty-eight of the fatalities were in Germany, with Chancellor Angela Merkel calling the situation a catastrophe as she expressed solidarity with those affected by the flooding.
She said: I grieve for those who have lost their lives in this disaster.
In Belgium, 11 deaths have been reported.
The dead included
28 in Rhineland-Palatinate state to the south.
Among the worst-hit German villages was Schuld, in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler, where several homes collapsed and up to 70 people remained unaccounted for. ....
