LANESBOROUGH, Mass. After many years with an independent water system, Berkshire Village is being connected to the Lanesborough water district and is undergoing infrastructure modernization.

Fox Hill Farm Allows Farmer to Enjoy Raising Cattle

Larry Lampman of Ancramdale, New York, grew up on the same land that he farms now at age 78. However, instead of having a herd of milking cows like his father, he raises beef, finishing six each year.
It was back in 1999 that he and his wife Erna took over farming the 315 rolling acres.
Lampman intended the farm to give him something to do after his retirement from environmental engineering with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation — more than as a moneymaker. He enjoys raising animals, a trait that seems to be inherited in his family.
Since the late 1800s, his family has farmed these acres, beginning as a horse and sheep operation with Lampman’s grandfather. Later, his father and uncle shifted the farm to dairy. ....

Who knew? Presidential historian Michael Beschloss is Berkshire blizzard geek

That image of the blizzard of 1888, also from The Eagle s photo archives, apparently came up in a conversation locally. Zoomed today with a childhood friend who now lives in Pittsfield! a Beschloss follower, Dr. Linda Tribuzio, replied.  Sent this to her - with appropriate references, of course!😊
In a recent online feature, The Eagle presented a collection of images from notable blizzards. As staffer Jen Huberdeau wrote in that account, Mysteries from the Morgue: Legendary Snowstorms to hit the Berkshires, the 1888 storm was a killer.
It began the evening of March 11 and lasted 3 days. Reported snow totals vary from 36 to 42 inches. What made the storm so memorable was the huge snowdrifts that came with it and the aftermath. A train arriving from Albany, N.Y., on the Boston and Albany Railroad was caught in the Washington Cut, the name given to a granite outcropping on Washington Mountain 3 miles outside Hinsdale. There, 72 passengers remained for two days a ....
