And, like me, you may find it hard to believe that it was 53 years ago, February 19, 1968, to be precise, that Fred Rogers first invited us into his wonderful make-believe neighborhood. And it was February 27, 2003 that he died at age 74.
Born in Latrobe on March 20, 1928, the first day of spring that year, Mister Rogers was a genuinely kind and gentle soul who became a friend to tens of millions of children and their parents through the world of TV. (Fred, being a Pittsburgh-area native, the show debuted and was always produced at WQED, America’s first community-sponsored television station.) ....
