Joe Douglas didn’t take the
Sam Darnold trade lightly, and the Jets GM acknowledged how difficult it was telling the quarterback that he had been traded to the Panthers.
“[T]he swallow-hard moment for me was just making that call to Sam,” Douglas told SI’s Albert Breer.
“You know how much work and dedication he’s put in the last three years here, how many rough situations he’s been through, and never wavered with his confidence. Per NFL.com, “New York announced Thursday that it has re-signed safety/special teams player Bennett Jackson and signed former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Corey Levin.”
Jackson saw action in four games for New York in 2020 with 48 special teams snaps prior to be placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Jackson was drafted by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and has seen playing time with the Giants, Ravens and Jets, having joined the latter in 2019 off waivers from Baltimore. ....

On a personal note, I’m sad to report one of my parent’s dogs passed on Tuesday, her name was Sadie and she was a very good dog, she accompanied me on a couple of deer hunts in Georgia, her contribution was to sleep at my feet and occasionally ask for a treat..I will miss her. Good morning, GGN! I hope you’re all having a great start to the day. Per NBC’s Peter King, there’s a strong chance that the 17-game schedule starts with this upcoming year. Adding an extra game to the schedule brings some interesting questions for the season. Will the league incorporate more holiday and Saturday games? Will teams who made the playoffs comfortably start resting players for multiple weeks? Will the IR be updated and will the pre-season be changed? There’s quite a few things an extra game to the regular season could mean going forward. It’s definitely interesting to see the final details regarding the scheduling for the entirety of the season after incorporating this extra game. There s potential for a new-look-safeties room because three of the four players who received at least one snap at the position in the 2020 season have expiring contracts.
Jets General Manager Joe Douglas, however, said that an offseason priority is re-signing S Marcus Maye, the 2020 Curtis Martin Team MVP. Other than Maye, the only player under contract who took at least one snap on defense in the 2020 season was the rookie Ashtyn Davis.
Davis started six games after an impressive training camp. He first sat behind Maye and Bradley McDouglad, but was the next man up once McDougald went down. Davis first start was the equivalent to baptism by fire as he faced Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
