West Bengal Panchayat Election Result 2023 Live: Counting begins, TMC takes strong lead in early trends

West Bengal Panchayat Election Result 2023 Live: The counting of votes for the three-tier panchayat polls to nearly 74,000 seats in West Bengal began on Tuesday morning. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken strong lead all across the state in early trends. There are around 339 counting venues spread across 22 districts. The maximum number of counting centres was in South 24 Parganas at 28, while the minimum was in Kalimpong at four. Some northern districts are also facing inclement weather. "The counting, which began at 8 am, is likely to continue for the next two days. It will take time for the ballots to be counted and the results to be compiled. We are hopeful that a trend will be available by the end of the day," an SEC official said. All the counting venues will be manned by armed state police personnel and central forces, with prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC being imposed outside the venue to avoid any untoward incidents. West Bengal Panchayat Election Result: Counting of votes is under way for the panchayat elections in West Bengal. Since the announcement of polling dates by the State Election Commission on June 8, a series of violent incidents took place, leading to the loss of lives across the party lines.. A total of 69.85% voter turnout was recorded till 5pm in 696 booths in 19 districts of West Bengal, where polling for the panchayat elections was declared void. No major incident was reported in the repolling ordered by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday evening amid allegations of tampering with ballot boxes and the violence that left 15 people dead. Polling was held on Saturday in over 61,000 booths for the three-tier panchayat elections, with a voter turnout of 80.71 per cent. In several places, ballot boxes were looted, set on fire and thrown in ponds, leading to violence.
