Jonathan Granirer and David Foster will represent UVic undergraduate and graduate student voices respectively on the 15-member Board of Governors (BoG) from July 2021 to June 2022. The Board of Governors is one of the highest decision-making bodies at UVic. 
Granirer and Foster were the only candidates to run for their positions and have been acclaimed to their respective seats. They are both seasoned student representatives and say they will be working together to advocate for students on issues such as a safe return to in-person classes, international student tuition, and disability advocacy. ....

UVic anticipates more in-person classes in summer semesters, adjusts key dates and re-opens general bursary for spring semester

For this semester, however, the extended winter break forced some changes to be made to important academic deadlines. UVic has also reopened their general bursary, allowing students to access more financial aid.
Here are some updates on what we can expect regarding an eventual return to face-to-face classes, an update on those key dates, and how to apply for financial aid through the bursary. 
More in-person classes coming
Although COVID-19 vaccines are beginning to arrive on Vancouver Island, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what pandemic-related restrictions will be in place in the coming months and what they will mean for students. UVic  plans  to have a greater number of in-person courses for the upcoming summer semesters (May-August 2021), but held off on making any concrete decisions about ....

Inside UVic's decarbonization plans and their latest investment in Raven Indigenous Capital Partners

In January 2020, the UVic Board of Governors passed a new investment strategy, called the Responsible Investment Policy, while protesters from Divest UVic voiced their disappointment. 
Now, a year after the policy was implemented, UVic has announced a $500 000 investment in Raven Indigenous Capital Partners’ Indigenous Impact Fund. Through investments in companies like the Raven Fund, UVic aims to reduce the carbon intensity of their working capital investment portfolio by 45 per cent by 2030. 
Divest UVic remains concerned, however, that the Responsible Investment Policy falls short of divestment from fossil fuels. The policy placed a focus on carbon intensity and thematic investments. Carbon intensity is a measurement of the estimated total emissions of UVic’s investment holdings across all sectors. Emily Lowan, the director of campaigns for the UVSS, says it’s a flawed metric.  ....
