Non-essential travel restricted to Nova Scotia as province deals with COVID-19 spike

Nova Scotia closed its provincial boundary to non-essential travel from all parts of Canada except Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday as it deals with a spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Halifax Regional Centre for Education also confirmed that a total of seven schools are now closed because of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.
The newest closure is at Bell Park Academic Centre in Lake Echo after a single case was identified late Wednesday.
Health officials say the school will remain closed to students until Tuesday for cleaning.
The outbreak also saw the province cancel next month s women s world hockey championship set for Halifax and Truro for the second consecutive year on Wednesday, citing public safety concerns. ....

Thirty-eight new cases of COVID-19 are being reported in Nova Scotia today, April 22.
Thirty-three cases are in Central Zone. Two are related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada and two are related to travel outside of Canada. The people are self-isolating, as required. Nineteen are close contacts of previously reported cases. Ten are under investigation, two of which were identified Wednesday, April 21, at Bell Park Academic Centre in Lake Echo and Shannon Park Elementary in Dartmouth.
Three cases are in Eastern Zone and are related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada. The people are self-isolating, as required. ....

One Additional Case of COVID-19 Connected to School

Nova Scotia is reporting one additional case of COVID-19, identified today, April 21, connected to Bell Park Academic Centre in Lake Echo, Central Zone.
The school will remain closed to students until Tuesday, April 27. A deep cleaning will take place and students will learn from home during the closure. Families will receive an update before students return to school on Tuesday.
As with any positive case, public health will be in touch with any close contacts of this person and advise of next steps, including testing. Everyone who is a close contact will be notified, tested and asked to self-isolate for 14 days. ....

'We are seeing early signs of community spread': N.S. reports 25 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday

Nova Scotia Public Health officials reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 19 in Central Zone and Premier Iain Rankin is sounding the alarm about community spread as the number of active cases increases to 79.
Earlier on Wednesday, Nova Scotia Premier Rankin cancelled the world women s hockey championship, which was scheduled for next month in Halifax and Truro.
I am very concerned with the rising number of cases in Nova Scotia, which are higher than we have seen in quite some time, Rankin said. We are seeing early signs of community spread and we must strictly follow all public health protocols to get back on track, especially in the greater Halifax region. ....
