Gastonia Farmers Market event has bees buzzing Nan Kirlin Plan on “bee”-ing at the Gastonia Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 19. Gastonia and Keep Gastonia Beautiful, in partnership with the Gaston County Beekeepers Association, Master Gardeners Group of Gaston County, Gaston County, and volunteers from all of these groups will be available to educate, entertain and inform all interested big and little folks on the importance of all pollinator animals and pollinator plants. This informative event will take place around the physical building of the Farmers Market. A welcome table will provide information and direction, volunteers will be there to answer your questions about pollinator plants and most other gardening questions. ....
The mural has been painted on the exterior wall of Hands On! Children’s Museum. Mayor Barbara Volk and City Council members, city staff members, muralist Matt Willey, Joseph Knight, director of Hands On! Children’s Museum, Bee City USA volunteers and others who have supported the project attended the ceremony, held at the site of the mural in the Azalea Parking lot, on Third Avenue East between Main and King streets. Willey, who established his organization The Good of the Hive with a mission to paint 50,000 honey bees on walls around the world - a symbolic number related to the number of honey bees in a healthy hive - said in a news release that he s excited that Hendersonville has participated in the project. ....

Closed streets, the opening of farmers markets, a new balloon festival and more are planned for Saturday, May 8. Here s everything you need to know. LoveHendo downtown Main Street will be closed to vehicles from First Avenue to Sixth Avenue all day on May 8. Cross streets will remain open. Parking will be available near Main Street and handicapped parking will be available at Courthouse Square and City Hall. Public restrooms are located at the Visitors Center on the south end of Main Street and at 125 Fifth Avenue on the northern end. ....
Residents invited to help paint Bee Mural in downtown Hendersonville From staff reports Like a paint-by-number template, the ground-level sections of the Bee Mural downtown will be outlined and ready for residents to come out and help paint. Ages 5 and up can add their own touch to the mural. Artist Matt Willey has been painting honey drips, chrysalises and a butterfly on the mural being created on the exterior wall of Hands On! Children’s Museum in the Azalea parking lot on Third Avenue East between North Main Street and King Street in downtown Hendersonville. On Saturday, May 1, the community is invited to join him and make a personal mark by painting a petal or two on the mural, organizers said in a news release. ....
