Cumbria's best beer gardens from Carlisle to Keswick - chosen by our readers


With some coronavirus restrictions lifting yesterday as part of the Government’s roadmap for Britain’s next steps in combating Covid-19, many readers will be planning their trip to sip an ice-cool beer in one of our region’s best beer gardens.
This week, we asked you for your “best beer garden” and, as always, you answered the call.
Here, in no particular order are some of the recommendations for the best beer garden across north and west Cumbria.
1: ROYAL SCOT, CARLISLE
Based on Langrigg Road in Morton, it has an outdoor seating area for customers.
Jono Ogilvie, who voiced his recommendation for the pub, said: “[There is a] dog friendly area and also an outside bar area, could you want any more?” ....

Buildings in York by architect Walter Brierley and where to find them


County Hall in Northallerton
County Hall is used by North Yorkshire County Council for its headquarters. The main offices - the Brierley Building - is an ode to the architect himself. Meetings are held in the Brierley Room while staff can get refreshments in the Brierley’s Restaurant.
Dringhouses War Memorial
It is located outside the Church of St Edward the Confessor. It was originally a First World War (1914-1918) memorial made in 1922, by Brierley and fellow architect James Hervey Rutherford.
Later additions were made following the Second World War (1939-1945).
