Beaver County nonprofits receive Duquesne Light Company grants

From Staff Reports PITTSBURGH  Duquesne Light Co. has announced the first group of microgrant recipients through its Community Impact Grants (CIG) program, the new signature initiative of DLC’s Charitable Giving arm. The company is awarding $100,000 among 22 grassroots nonprofits across Allegheny and Beaver counties to support efforts in connectivity and technology, public art and green spaces. The organizations from Beaver County who received grants were: Beaver County YMCA; Best Friends Inc. of Beaver Falls; Crop & Kettle of Ambridge; Neighborhood North: Museum of Play in Beaver Falls; Beaver County Regional Council of Governments in support of RiverWise “When we launched the CIG program in April, we couldn’t have imagined a more enthusiastic response from the community,” said Sam Hartzman, DLC’s associate manager of corporate citizenship. “We received more than 130 applications, and while each organization is deserving, the 22 we selected are a great repr

BEAVER FALLS – Two Democratic candidates are vying for Beaver Falls’ four-year mayoral seat in the May 18 primary election.  Incumbent Mayor George Quay, who was first appointed to the seat by Beaver Falls City Council in 2012 and re-elected since, is running for his third term. Prior to being appointed, Quay was serving his second term on Beaver Falls City Council after retiring as an owner of a motorcycle repair company. Quay believes the city has improved during his tenure, citing a downtown with storefronts filled, a booming housing market and a balanced budget.
