Texas for the last several weeks. I represent part of the houston area, North Houston and into other areas of Harris County. Houston is one of many cities in Harris County, texas. And of course im going talk bout Hurricane Harvey. On august 26, texans across the state braced themselves for Hurricane Harvey. It was a quick hurricane in that it was developed very quickly in the gulf of mexico. Texas, it southeast near corpus christi, in rockport. And did considerable damage in rockport. I understand from congressman farenthold that represents the area that the entire small town was just obliterated by Hurricane Harvey. Thats right on the coast of texas. Hurricane harvey made its way up the coast toward houston. Riding the coast and the gulf of mexico. When it got to houston, texas, it slowed down to some extent. And for five days it rained. It rained all day and all night. And the flood waters rose in the houstonHarris County area. All told, we got about 50 inches of rain in those five d

Storm. Forecasters are warning of unsurvivable storm surge, as high as 20 feet or more. Were getting some of our first pictures tracking the storm, tracking the surge. Were trying to connect to as many people as we can to get the best picture of the devastation as the sun and the light comes up. Nearly 400,000 customers are without power in texas and louisiana. Interstate 10 is closed in some parts of louisiana because of flooding concerns. It was 15 years ago this week that Hurricane Katrina devastated louisiana, killing more than 1,800 people. And the storm that is hitting right now is more powerful than that. You may remember that 40 of people who died there in katrina drowned in the floodwaters. Storm of the hammering that is taking place. Behind us its completely dark. It was lit up, but now the power is gone. This hotel is running completely on generated power. Its an island of lights surrounded by a sea of dark ness. Its the winds now that are just taking things apart. You can see the trees that have now been snapped off. They havent just sort of broken up at the top. Theyve been snapped off at the base, and it goes out as far as you can see, and of course those are just the trees. You can imagine the devastation being done to structures. We know that downtown is suffering in lake charles. The water that had stayed away is now beginning to come in in certain areas. Understandable because the storms moving. The winds shifting, and as a result of that, thats part of why you see a new round of destruction.
