A man convicted of shooting then crushing two Pope County men is asking a judge for his conviction and sentence to be thrown out and have a new trial.
In September 2016, Tyler Barefield was arrested after two men, Aaron Brock and Beau DeWitt, were found shot and crushed inside a Chevrolet Impala at his family s Russellville salvage yard.
Tyler Barefield appeared in a Pope County Courtroom Tuesday following a petition for relief filed in February 2020. Barefield s new defense attorney Jeff Rosenzweig claims in this petition that his former counsel Patrick Benca was ineffective in his duties by failure to challenge the state crime lab in their testimony and also during closing arguments in the 2017 trial. ....
