Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga consoled himself that the winning candidate, Feisal Abdalla Bader, is a former member of Orange party.
In a candid interview yesterday with KTN’S Ken Mijungu, Raila described his loss as “the nature of elections” where “you win some and lose some.”
He nevertheless complained of blatant voter bribery by some MPs, describing it as unethical and discouraging.
“The winner was actually an ODM member. There are a number of people who voted for him, who are ODM members because of the work he did when he was the assistant to the late Dori,” he said. ....

Outfoxed in Msambweni, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga consoled himself that the winning candidate, Feisal Abdalla Bader, is a former member of Orange party.

Low voter turnout in Wundanyi-Mbale Ward as claims of bribery reported

“I had some that some candidates were assembling voters in the wards and dishing out money at night to win support,” the candidate who voted at Mlechi primary school told the press in Wundanyi town.
The only female candidate, Getrude Mwakio of the United Green Movement party, said the voting process was peacefully devoid of chaos.
“This is the only seat that was occupied by a woman and I am banking on them to voter for me to continue with the work done by the former MCA the late Beatrice Mwabili who died of cancer in March this year,” noted Mwakio. ....

Residents of Wundanyi-Mbale line up to cast their vote early on Tuesday. [Standard]
Wundanyi-Mbale Ward electorates in Taita-Taveta County took to the ballot to elect a new ward representative on Tuesday morning.
The seat, which has attracted the interest of country’s leading political parties fell vacant after the death of former MCA Beatrice Mwabili in late March 2020.
The voters streamed to different polling stations while following all the necessary Covid-19 protocols of temperature checks, social distance, wearing masks and sanitising.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that voters would be required to strictly follow the containment measures during the exercise. ....

Low turnout and bribery claims mar by-elections

Others vying are Hanningtone Onyango (Movement for Democratic Growth), David Ayieko (Kadu-Asili) and independent candidates Dan Osila, Joshua Ogada and Walter Okello.
At Wachira Youth Polytechnic, only 120 voters had cast their votes out of the 591 registered voters by mid-day.
At Bar Union Primary School, 214 of the over 1,500 registered voters had voted by 10am.

Kisumu North ward has 16,000 registered voters, 30 polling stations and 15 polling centres.
At the Coast, besides the low voter turnout in Wundanyi-Mbale Ward, there were claims of voter bribery.
Matuga MP Kasim Tandaza claimed some candidates were bribing voters across various polling stations on the outskirts of Wundanyi town. ....
