A family photo holiday card arrived in the mail last week.  Underneath the image of the smiling family were the words  “Good Riddance, 2020!”  Amen to that.
On the flip side of the card were lists of the pros and cons of this pandemic  year – what we suffered through and what we unexpectedly gained.  No surprise, the “con” list was much longer.
The 2020 Beacon Santa campaign has been a bit like that holiday card. 
For those of us on the Beacon Santa Board of Directors, this time of year is always one of both happiness and sadness.  We’re happy to be able to help the hundreds of applicants in some small way, but we recognize that our help is, indeed, small and for just one moment in time.  Learning of the ongoing struggles of real people who live alongside us, however, are lessons we wish we didn’t have to revisit each year. ....
