The City of Beachwood has fired a police officer following the results of an investigation into a shooting at Beachwood Place in the summer of 2019.  In a letter sent from Beachwood Mayor Martin S. Horwitz to former officer Blake Rogers, the mayor says that Rogers violated multiple ethical, use of force, and standards policies enforced by the Beachwood Police Department, including discharging his weapon in the presence of children.

Blake Rogers, a Beachwood Police Department employee since 2013, was ordered terminated immediately Monday for violating multiple departmental polices in the shooting, according to Beachwood Mayor Martin Horwitz’s letter Monday, shared with the Daily News. The letter, addressed to the former cop, came on the heels of last Thursday’s disciplinary hearing where claims made on behalf of Rogers were disputed by evidence, including video. © Provided by New York Daily News Rogers violated multiple sections of the department’s use of force policy as well as the department’s standards of conduct, including committing unsafe acts or endangering self or others and dishonesty or untruthfulness, according to the letter.

One woman was carjacked at the Swenson’s parking lot and a Heinen’s employee fended off an attempted carjacking, both in University Heights within eight days of each other in December. Lt. Todd Kinley of the University Heights Police Department said crime tends to rise before the holidays and extend into January. In the first incident Dec. 10, at the parking lot of Swenson’s at 14510 Cedar Road, a 40-year-old woman was inside a black, 2020 Range Rover rental. “The suspect approached her while she was parked, brandished a pistol, ordered her out of her car and then drove off with the car,” Kinley said.
