UPDATE: Mass vaccination clinic at GCC booked up: residents advised to keep checking


UPDATE: the New York State-run temporary mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic was opened for appointments this morning at 7:59 a.m.
By 9:20 there were no appointments available, however that has been fluctuating, officials at the Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments said.
“We encourage those who are seeking vaccination to periodically check the site as some may cancel their appointments or the system catches up,” they said.
“We realize this may be disappointing and frustrating for our local county residents as it is to us. We will continue to advocate for increased vaccine allocations moving forward,” stated Paul Pettit, Director of Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments. “Every dose of vaccine that comes to our counties are administered within the week of receipt. We will continue to call on the state to increase allocations to rural counties as our vaccination rates continue to lag in comparison to surrounding counties.” ....

Batavia native missing in Ecuador


A Batavia native has been missing in Ecuador for more than a week and his family and friends are hoping for any help they can get in locating him.
Travis Joseph Sackett, a 2003 graduate of Batavia High School, went for a day hike to the Imbabura Volcano on Sunday, Feb. 21.
He was reported missing when he failed to show up for work the next day.
Sackett was living at a farm in Quito, where he worked for free room and board.
His lifelong friend, Jennifer Ko, also formerly of Batavia, said Sackett was in between missions after a stint with the Peace Corps. ....
